South Africa

South Africa is located at the southernmost tip of the African continent. Its capital is Johannesburg, also fondly called Joburg. Its coast touches both the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. It has a population of over 47 million, with Africans making up over 38 million. Afrikaans is the language most widely spoken in this diverse nation.
The "Big Five" of South Africa are the 5 big and dangerous animals found in this country. They are the reason why tourists from all over the world go to South Africa for safaris and to photograph these animals in their natural habitat. The "Big Five" consist of the Lion, Leopard, Hippopotamus, Rhinoceros and the Wildebeest (or gnu). A lot of South African art and paintings portray the big 5.
These photos show the various wild animals found in South Africa. They were taken in an animal reserve insured by the safety of a vehicle.
