Daboy
by Dr. Joyce Navarro

Daboy Tuazon, our first featured talented young man from Bamban, Tarlac, was born August 12th. Jose Mari Nino M. Tuazon is the youngest son of John and Elisse Tuazon of Bamban, Tarlac and Angeles City. Daboy, with other pet names such as Dowy, Joey and Nino, went to grade school at the San Lorenzo Ruiz Center of Studies in San Fernando, Pampanga. In high school, he is a senior at Chevalier School in Angeles City where he is the Sports Editor of the Clarion, the school paper. Daboy loves basketball, tennis and chess.

Although born under the regal Leo sign, Daboy is a shy, quiet guy who at first glance, is stand offish. Silent waters run deep, for this "kabalen" of ours is multi-talented. Music is his favorite way of reaching out socially, making friends easily with those who share the passion for this art.

He is self taught on the guitar, learning ingeniously through the internet. Learning the language of music by reading notes is just natural for he loves to compose music. He also learned how to read notes and even play the piano through the internet. He now composes his own pieces.

Also fondly called Dowy (from his nickname Joey), he loves to be a comic when the mood hits him. He tickles the family funny bone by mimicking the way others sing, talk or dance. His antics send his family, especially his mother Elisse, literally ROTFL. He also draws caricatures of people close to him, a talent he rarely shows to the outside world.

He organized the BeatLess/Pipeline Bands. He is a dextrous electric guitarist, playing acoustic and bass guitars. He also plays the piano and the keyboard.

Perhaps, one of Dowy's memorable moments on stage was when he played solo guitar at the 2007 Sto. Nino Foundation Day in Bamban, Tarlac. Suddenly, the crowd went crazy over his brand of music, propelling him to a musical paradise, where only the worthy dare roam. For somebody who was a newbie to Sto. Nino Academy affairs, this was the treat of a lifetime! This website will treat its readers to a glimpse of that magical moment.

Dowy's other siblings, older brother Aki (John Michael Ferdinand) and Orange (Jeanne Loren Michelle), also are musicians in their own right. Although they all love music, they don't perform as a group like the famous Von Trapp Family of Sound of Music fame. Music is like a very jealous friend to each of them, capturing each sibling individually and allowing him/her to express music in his/her own personal way.

"Do not cry Pepito. Show these people that you are brave. It is a rare opportunity for me to die for our country. Not everybody is given that chance."

Saying attributed to Supreme Court Justice Jose Abad Santos of San Fernando, Pampanga when he was captured with his son and was interrogated by the Japanese in 1942.
